Engraving showing a race between G.P. Whiting (left) and G.N. Keith-Falconer, the best two amateur bicycle riders of the day, over a course of 25 miles at the Lillie-Bridge grounds, London, January 1875. Whiting won the race by 11 seconds, in a little over 1 hour and 41 minutes, to claim a ?20 prize Silver Cup. Both cyclists were riding 'Penny Farthing' or 'Ordinary' bicycles, which were most popular between 1871 and 1885.
