Photograph showing the two English batsman, Denis Compton and Bill Edrich, leaving the pitch at the Oval Cricket Ground, London, 19th August 1953. Compton had just scored the winning runs in the Fifth and final test match against Australia, to claim back the 'Ashes' for the first time in 20 years. With victory secure, the home crowd rushed onto the pitch to applaud their players, making a police presence necessary for Compton and Edrich's escape.
