This illustration shows the mighty explosion which signalled the end of the dam. On the left of the picture the 'Lancaster' flown by Squadron Leader Guy Gibson, leader of the 'Dambusters', is shown flying over the German anti-aircraft positions to distract their attention from the other aircraft of his squadron.
