An impression of the famous Roulette Room in the Casino at Monte Carlo. Although baccarat and other games of chance are played, the Casino is unique in that it is the only place where roulette is permitted by the Government, and, despite rumours that it may be permitted elsewhere on the Riviera in the near future, the political situation makes it extremely improbable that it will be played anywhere else for many years to come. A typical illustration by Howard Elcock showing the players at a roulette table in the casino at Monte Carlo. Elcock produced a number of illustrations for ILN magazines during the inter-war years, notably of the privileged classes at fashionable resorts or events, and particularly on holiday on the Riviera.
