The Tophane Cesmesi Fountain - one of the most famous of the baroque street fountains in the city. Built in 1732 by Mahmut I. Has marble walls, covered by floral designs and arabesques. Carved in low relief - these reliefs were originally painted and gilded. The widely overhanging roof was missing for a while, but is now restored. Postcard by Publishing House of Rochat. Inspired to issue a series of cards of quite well-known views of Constantinople which they then washed out in various colours. This was perhaps, for Constantinople, an innovation and the cards proved to be very popular with the public.
