The start of the great annual Mohammedan pilgrimage with the holy carpet to the sacred Kaaba shrine in Mecca. The carpet is said to be the actual one on which the Prophet Mohammed prayed and is 1,300 years old. It is taken on the journey each year, carried in a heavy ornamented housing on the back of a camel.
