View of the Marble Palace across the River Neva, St Petersburg, Russia. Thirty-two different types of marble were used in its construction. It was commissioned by Empress Catherine the Great for her favourite Count, Grigory Orlov, and built between 1768 and 1785. Today it is part of the State Russian Museum.
