Scenes outside the Pall Mall Gazette (top) and the National Liberal Club (bottom) as crowds waited for the results of the General Election of 1895. With no other way to obtain up to the minute news of results, crowds would congregate outside newspaper offices and political clubs for the latest information. In both cases, the buildings are emblazoned with electrically illuminated images of Lord Salisbury and Gladstone.
