A team of workmen building part of the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia. They appear to be splitting large logs, probably for the laying of sleepers. Construction took place between 1891 and 1913, and cost 1.455 billion roubles. The railway, which is the longest in the world at over 9000 kilometres, links Moscow with the Pacific port of Vladivostok.
