Scott, alias E. Sweeney, of Ardlamont mystery fame, who disappears every night in Mr Morritt's latest illusion. Edward Scott, real name Sweeney, was one of the party of three who in August 1893 went shooting on the Ardlamont Estate in the Argyll countryside, the other two being a young aristocrat Cecil Hambrough, and his tutor Alfred John Monson. Estate workers heard a shot and saw Scott and Monson running to Ardlamont House. They claimed Hambrough had shot himself in the head by accident. Though Monson was put on trial for suspected murder of Hambrough, with Scott named as his accomplice, the jury returned a verdict of not proven. Charles Morritt, the magician, secured Scott for his illusion of the disappearing man, though The Graphic comments that 'the chief interest of the spectacle lies...not so much in the disappearance as the appearance of Scott. He is not very like the descriptions of him given at the Ardlamont trial.'
