Rosa (Rosalia) Luxemburg (1871-1919), Marxist theorist, philosopher, economist and activist of Polish Jewish descent who became a naturalized German citizen, and an early member of the German Communist Party. She was executed, along with others, for taking part in the Spartacist uprising of January 1919, and is regarded as a Marxist martyr.
