A page in The Sphere magazine from 1911, which gives a no-holds-barred critique of the newly unveiled Queen Victoria Memorial monument in the Mall, London in front of Buckingham Palace. Among its criticisms are the 'mammoth mothers with uninviting offspring', a 'bulgy headed boy' , a 'tortured mermaid' and an incorrect Coat of Arms on the West Side of the Memorial. Clearly, they weren't impressed. The memorial was sculpted by Sir Thomas Brock with the architectural surround by Sir Aston Webb. It was unveiled on May 16 1911 in front of a large number of the royal family including the Kaiser.
