A Tertiary igneous dyke cutting through a sandstone deposit. The igneous rock pierced its way through the earth's crust in a vertical fissure. The surrounding triassic sandstones have been baked and hardened by the heat of the intrusion. The location is the shore west of Kildonan Castle, south-west of the Isle of Arran, Scotland.
