The magnificent train of purple velvet with gold embroidery representing floral emblems of the Empire worn by Queen Elizabeth, consort of King George VI at the Coronation in 1937. The train (officially known as the Robe) was six yards long, lined with ermine and bordered all around with a five inch band of fur. The velvet is heavily embroidered in gold thread with a design by Miss Fuller of the Royal School of Needlework, carried out under the supervision of Lady Smith-Dorrien, Principal of the School. The design emboidies the floral emblems of the Empire, including the Tudor rose, the thistle, and the shamrock. The Dominion emblems, for which correct sketches were provided by the respective High Commissioners, comprise the Canadian maple leaf, Australian wattle, New Zealand fern leaf, South African protea and Indian lotus. In the centre, under the Crown is a large, double 'E'.
