A diagrammatic drawing to show the function of the Shrine of St. Edward in Westminster Abbey during the Coronation ceremony (in this case, that of King Edward VI). After the King is crowned, he passes through the door on the South side of the high altar into St. Edward's Chapel. The Queen at the same time passes into the chapel via a door on the North side of the altar. The King, standing before the altar delivers the sceptre with the dove to the Archbishop who lays it on the altar. He is then disrobed of his Royal Robe of State and arrayed in a Robe of purple velvet and, wearing his Imperial Crown, receives the orb from the Archbishop and then, their Majesties proceed through the Choir towards the West Door of the Abbey.
