Vingre - Shot at Dawn - Six men of the 298 Royal Infantry were shot here on Dec 4th 1918. Corporal Floch and Soldiers Blanchard, Durantet, Gay-Pettelet and Quinault were accused of various petty offences and their execution was largely to encourage what was regarded as an ineffective battalion. They were held in the underground farm store the night before their execution. After the war they were exonerated on the grounds that their officer gave false evidence.
