She: Lloyd George says as we're a sluggish people. He: Not 'arf! Look 'ow we're slugging the Germans. A humorous scene in a public house showing a somewhat confused discussion about Lloyd George's view on the drinking of alcohol during the First World War. He believed the consumption of alcohol among workers stunted munitions production (he famously stated the British were fighting the Germans, the Austrians and drink, and drink was the most deadly enemy). A number of measures were brought in to curb drinking including no treating rules and reduced licensing hours.
