A very fine lace and hand-painted silk cushion-cover showing the Cloth Hall, Ypres, on fire, c. 1914. This was given to Private 40520 Adam Shaw, Cameronian Scottish Rifles, who was killed in action on the 21st September 1918. Adam was born in Glasgow on the 1st October 1897. He enlisted in the Highland Light Infantry, later transferring to the Cameronian Scottish Rifles after being wounded. Whilst being treated for wounds in Belgium, Adam had been cared for by a nun in the Ypres area. She made this cushion-cover for him and he later gave it to his sister, Mrs. Peggy McNeish of Glasgow. Adam Shaw is buried in Meath Cemetery, Villers Guislan, France. . Commemorative Art
