Suffragette Arson Tunbridge Wells. The ruins of the cricket pavilion at the Nevill Cricket ground in Tunbridge Wells, 11th April 1913. The fire started in the early hours of the morning and was blamed on the actions of militant suffragettes, although no-one was ever arrested. The incident caused outrage in the town, and Arthur Conan Doyle compared the incident to 'blowing up a blind man and his dog.' Damage was estimated at ?12,000
