Suffragette Arson Hurst Park. The destruction of the Grand Stand at Hurst Park racecourse on 8th June 1913. It was the work of two militant suffragettes, 'Kitty Marion' and Betty Giveen, probably as a retaliatory act for the injuries sustained by Emily Wilding Davison at the Derby. The Grand Stand was gutted, causing damage of around ?6,000. Kitty Marion was later sentenced to three years penal servitude.
