Brussels, Belgium - Statue of Martyr Gabrielle Petit, shot by the Germans on 1st April 1916. A monument to all women who gave their lives for the country during the war. Gabrielle Alina Eugenia Maria Petit (1893?1916) was a Belgian woman who spied for the British Secret Service during World War I. Executed in 1916, she became a Belgian national heroine after the war's end.
