'Tickets', the Card Dealer. A Parisian by birth, Tickets served in the French army. After his discharge he emigrated to America, where he became a French teacher. Returning to Europe, he worked in London, first as an 'extra' in plays, for a shilling (5p) a night. He is photographed here ekeing out a living as a display-card painter for shopkeepers. 'Tickets has never made more than 15 shillings (75p) in a week'.
