Surgically inverted appendix. Endoscopic view of a surgically inverted appendix (appendix invertus). This is a result of a type of appendicectomy (removal of the part of the appendix) where the appendix is inverted into the caecum of the large intestine. Historically, it is used to theoretically reduce the risk of peritoneal contamination in acute appendicitis.
