Cumulus mediocris clouds over New Zealand mountains. Cumulus clouds often form at cold fronts where the advancing, cool air forces warm air upwards. They typically occur at under 2000 metres altitude, with the mediocris variety having a moderate vertical extent. Photographed in the afternoon in spring near Omarama, on New Zealand's South Island.
