Geothermal mud pool. Bubbling mud in a mud pool in Iceland. Mud pools form in geothermal areas when there is insufficient water to form a hot spring or fumarole. The heated water from underground turns the surrounding rock and soil into hot mud. Photographed in the Hverarond geothermal area, in Namafjall, Myvatn, in the Krafla volcano system, Iceland.
