Wineland, Cornell and Phillips, NIST Nobel laureates. Three Nobel laureate US physicists, from left to right: Dave Jeffrey Wineland (born 1944), Eric Allin Cornell (born 1961) and William Daniel 'Bill' Phillips (born 1948). Wineland shared the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics for experimental work on ion traps. Cornell shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2001 for his work on Bose-Einstein condensates. Phillips shared the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on laser cooling of atoms.
