Ejaculatory duct anatomy, 19th-century illustration. The union of the vas deferens with the duct of the seminal vesicle is at upper left, just before the prostate gland (pink), which is at the base of the bladder. Sperm produced in the testes (lower centre) is stored in and matures in the epididymis, passing into the vas deferens during ejaculation. The ejaculate passes into the urethra and exits via the erect penis (not shown). One of the bladder's ureters is shown at top left. Structures of the testis shown here include the efferent ducts that connect the main body of the testis (the rete testis and its seminiferous tubules) with the epididymis. The testis tissue shown here is its convoluted vascular network of capillaries. The labels are in French.
