There are approximately 385,000 foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong. The majority are Filipino and Indonesian women who are employed as domestic workers, or work as caregivers and child minders. On their days off (usually Sundays) these women often gather in community sports grounds and parks to connect with family and friends. Research has shown that these workers have had a very beneficial impact on the financial wellbeing of their dual income employers. Their services are cheap and most of them live under harsh economic conditions in order to remain employed in a city where the cost of living is astronomical.
