Pont du Gard aqueduct, France. This ancient Roman aqueduct and bridge crosses the Gardon River near Vers-Pont-du-Gard in the Gard department of southern France. The Pont du Gard is 275 metres long and 49 metres high. It was built between 15 BC and 14 AD. The whole aqueduct was 50 kilometres long and supplied Nimes with water. The water channel is on the top of the structure. On top of the first level of arches is a bridge, which was widened in the 18th century. The aqueduct was built from dressed stone without mortar. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Photographed in 2005.
