The Sun's corona and complex magnetic fields. Composite image, taken during a solar eclipse, combining a photograph from the La Silla Observatory in visible light with ultraviolet data from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory's (SOHO) EIT instruments and four filters from the Solar Dynamics Observatory's (SDO) AIA instrument. The combination of these different data shows the complexity of the solar magnetic field. A large, but not powerful active region can be seen in the middle of the solar disk. The poles of the Sun are relatively dark with less outflow of ions.
