Estonia; city of Tallinn: Kadriorg Palace (German: Schloss Katharinenthal) in subdistrict Kadriorg (Catherine`s Valley). First plans; tzar Peter the Great (German: Peter der Gro遝) made in 1718. he named the valley outside Reval (today: Tallinn) after his second wife Catherine (German: Katharina). Architect became Italian Nicola Michetti (1675 - 1758); involved also in building of Peterhof Palace near Saint Petersburg. The palace was noit finished; when Peter died; in 1725. Works continued; after 1727. Further works were done; 1828 to 1830. Until 1917; the governor of Russian government Estonia had his residence; here. Since 1921; the palace is seat of the Eesti Kunstmuuseum (Estonian art Museum). Since restauration; in 2000; the museum shows only historic foreign art with works and paintings of Bartholomeus van der Helst; Gillis van Valckenborch; Jacob Jordaens; Lambert de Hondt; Adriaen Cornelisz. Beeldemaker; Maria Dorothea Wagner; Bernardo Strozzi; Pietro Liberi; Anton Graff; Angelica Kauffmann; Francesco Fontebasso; Cornelius Schut; Michail Clodt von J黵gensburg; or Ilja Repin. On the premises; there is also another palace; the residence of the president of Estonia; first in use; in 1938.
