The Weka (Gallirallus australis) is an endemic bird of New Zealand that has during the evolution lost the ability to fly like the famous Kiwi. It is very opportunistic and can eat various foods or sadly even human waste. This image of Weka was taken on a beach in Ulva island in New Zealand wich is "predatory free" because cleared of introduced mammals predators. The bird was not shy at all and came a few meters from me in search of mussels to eat at low tide. The Weka a is an endangered bird ranked vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
