Western Mosquito Fish (Gambusia affinis) are used as a biocontrol agent to reduce mosquito populations. In some instances the fish are responsible for decimating native populations of other species such as native tree frogs. The fish are distributed free of charge in some counties in Southern California for homeowners to place in their artificial pools.
