Ireland; Co. Kerry; Ring of Kerry: bird colonies (gannets; puffins; seagulls) on island of Little Skellig; UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Parts of the Star Wars films were realized on the island of Skellig Michael; irish "Sceilg Mhich韑"; english Michael`s Rock; also knonw as Great Skellig and UNESCO world heritage Site since 1996 together with neighbouring Little Skellig. Little Skellig is famous for its breading colonies of birds (puffins; gannets); Skellig Michael is famous for its cultural and religious heritage. The beehive huts atop of the island date back to the Augustine monastery on island; which started in 7th century AD and was in use; until end of 12th century; starting 13th century; when the monks left the island to live in their new abbey in Ballinskelligs; south of Portmagee and Kerry Cliffs. The ruins and remains of the island monastery; especially the beehive huts (German: Bienenkorbh黷ten); where used in the film as hiding and exile places of jedi knights on the oceanic science fiction planet Ahch-To. As well; the beehive huts recall the time of the hermits; monks living in total isolation and hermitage on the island.
