Chamfron belonging to Alof de Wignacourt, late 16th century, (1908). 'Chanfrein De L'Armure Avant Appartenu a Alof de Wignacourt'. A chamfron, (or chamfrain), was a piece of armour designed to protect the horse's face in battle. This example is said to have belonged to French nobleman Fra Alof de Wignacourt (1547-1622), 54th Grand Master of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
