Restoration and investigation work on a papyrus document. Infrared reflectographic techniques being used to read the deteriorated parts of a document known as the Artemidorus papyrus. This controversial papyrus, dated first century BC by some authorities, was initially attributed to Artemidorus of Ephesus, a Greek geographer. The document consists of a 3 metre-long piece of papyrus with text, a map (the only Greek map preserved on papyrus), and a series of anatomical and animal sketches. Recent research has indicated the papyrus may be a 19th century forgery by the Greek Constantine Simonidis. Photographed at the University of Milan.
