Paul Bernays (1888-1977), Swiss mathematician. Bernays worked on mathematical logic, axiomatic set theory, and the philosophy of mathematics. He worked at a number of institutions, including the University of Gottingen, ETH Zurich, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton in the USA. Bernays is best known for his work 'Grundlagen der Mathematik' (Foundations of Mathematics) which he co-authored with David Hilbert.
