2019-20 Australian bushfire season. Satellite image of smoke rising from a burnt (brown) area of the eastern coast of Australia on 31 December 2019 during the 2019-20 Australian bushfire season. The brown 'strip' running through the image has a width of approximately 50 kilometres and stretches for at least 100 kilometres. A state of emergency was declared in New South Wales, with record-breaking temperatures and drought increasing the effect of the bushfires. Image data obtained by the high-resolution multispectral image on a Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite.
