Light micrograph section of the human jejunum. The jejunum is the second part of the small intestine in humans and most higher animals. It is situated between the duodenum and the ileum and is considered to begin at the suspensory muscle of the duodenum, called the duodenojejunal flexure. The interior surface of the jejunum is covered in finger-like projections of mucosa called villi.
