Siberian heat wave, Spring 2020, satellite image. This image shows land surface temperatures in the Arctic Circle and Russia from 19th March to 20th June 2020, compared to the 2003-2018 average for the same period. Areas that are hotter than normal are red, those that are cooler are blue. Temperatures in Siberia had been unusually high since January. On the 20th June a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, the highest ever, was recorded in the town of Verkhoyansk inside the Arctic Circle. The unusually high temperatures exacerbated wildfires in the area. Image based on data acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aqua satellite.
