This occurs through the narrow slits between interlocking pedicles - branching processes on the podocyte cells that encase the glomerular surface. Fenestrated endothelium lines the capillaries ( containing red blood cells) and is separated from the podocytes by a basement membrane. Tubules surround the glomerulus.
