Resolving cephalhaematoma on a one month old girl's head. A cephalhaematoma is a bruise on a newborn's head caused by pressure on the head during birth. It often occurs during a prolonged second stage of labour or from instrumental delivery. The bruise is between the skull and scalp and so does not put any pressure on the brain. No treatment is needed as the body will absorb the fluid from the bruise over time.
