Papers checkpoint at Smolny. October 1917. Smolny was the headquarters of the October armed uprising. After the victory of the October Revolution in Smolny there were elected by the Second All-Russian Congress of Soviets of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and the Council of Peoples Commissars, as well as the Central Committee of the party. Here, from mid-November 1917 to March 10, 1918 until the Soviet government moved to Moscow.
