Caesium chloride is used in biology for separating different types of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), whilst potassium hexacyanoferrate is used to detect the presence of iron. This is a mixture of the two chemicals imaged in polarised light. Magnification: x70 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
