Marks left on the surface of Mars by the Perseverance rover. The bright orange area towards upper left was scoured by the rockets of the descent stage that lowered the rover to the surface. At lower left are tracks left as the rover moved over the surface. Perseverance was carried to Mars aboard the Mars 2020 spacecraft, which launched from Earth on 30th July 2020. Perseverance successfully touched down in Jezero Crater on 18th February 2021. It will study the geology of Mars and search for signs of life.
