Milky Way structure, all-sky WISE survey. This survey, carried out in 2010 by NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission, revealed a faint X-shape structure at the centre of the galaxy. This scan of the sky completed the WISE mission objectives, after which it was put into hibernation in 2011. It was later reactivated (in September 2013) and renamed NEOWISE (Near-Earth Object Wide-field Survey Explorer). Image published in 2016.
