Doursounian implant shoulder surgery, illustration. The procedure shown here is the insertion of an implant named for its inventor, orthopaedic surgeon Levon Doursounian. It is intended for use to repair certain fractures of the head of the humerus (upper arm bone). One part of the implant is placed in the glenoid socket in the scapula, with the other end implanted in the shaft of the humerus. The fragmented head of the humerus is re-built around the implant (right), with the finished repair shown at lower left.
