Brain and eye nerves. Illustration of the human brain with a sectioned quarter removed to show the optic nerves and neural pathways. The eyes are at lower right. The optic nerves travel from the back of each eye to the rear of the brain, where most of the neural vision processing takes place. The optic nerves branch out and terminate on the opposite side of the brain to the eye that they originate from, crossing at a place called the optic chiasma. This crossing allows the images from both eyes to be combined.
