The creation in 1984 of the Municipal Photography Gallery, which culminates with the appearance of the Biennial 'Montpellier Photo-Visions' in 1991, generated the need for a space for photography in the so-called 'Popular Pavilion'. This is a space that allows for large exhibitions, a large archive of images and a library. With these characteristics, its objectives are aimed at the investigation of contemporary authors and private collections, especially of an international nature, the dissemination of photography in all its forms and techniques, the search for new interlocutors for the creation of projects and finally the establishment of Contacts between national and international authors in relation to the cultural policy of the Villa de Montpellier and the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
