Metatarsal bones in the mid-foot link the phalanges to the tarsal bones. The tarsal bones include the calcaneus bone (heel, upper right) and the talus (above the heel). These bones articulate with the lower leg bones, the fibula (top right) and tibia (shin bone, top centre), to form the ankle.
